Let me take you back to the beginning of my journey. Born and raised in Florida, I started my career in sales, eventually finding myself in the world of enterprise software. However, it was a personal challenge within my own family that sparked the idea for Upside. Watching my grandparents struggle with the gap in alternative caregiving models for older adults ignited a passion within me to make a difference. With my cousin Andrew, I founded Upside, driven by the mission to provide housing solutions for those in need.
One of the critical moments that shaped our journey was the realization of the gap in alternative caregiving models for older adults. Witnessing my grandparents’ struggle with Alzheimer’s and the lack of support available highlighted the pressing need for change. This experience fueled our determination to create Upside, a platform dedicated to addressing housing insecurity and improving the lives of older adults and their caregivers.
Despite its profound impact on health outcomes, housing has long been overlooked in the healthcare landscape. The complexity and expense of addressing housing issues have deterred many from tackling this critical issue. However, recent focus on social determinants of health (SDOH) has shed light on the importance of housing in healthcare, paving the way for innovative solutions like Upside to make a difference.
