Your Home Manager can help make appointments, arrange transportation, assist with technology, and even deal with administrative burdens like identifying a new primary care provider or submitting housing maintenance requests. They are your dedicated connection that alleviates the burden of “all the things,” so you can focus on enjoying daily life.

Upside+ vs. Traditional Senior Living

What’s the difference between the Upside+ experience and traditional senior living? Upside+ is about aging actively on your terms. Our community within a community approach allows you to live in a luxury apartment with amenities not available in a traditional senior living setting. All while being reassured with daily check-ins from a certified nursing assistant who gets to know you personally – and the support of your Home Manager, who can do everything including making dinner reservations, to troubleshooting Netflix. That’s what Upside+ is all about.

Is Upside+ for You or Your Loved One?

Our members want to stay away from traditional senior living as long as possible and don’t want to rely on friends or family to take care of them when the need arises. They also want the freedom to spend time the way they want rather than feeling tied down to household responsibilities that can become a real burden. They want the flexibility to travel, dine out, enjoy hobbies—and not the worry of housekeeping, maintenance, technology issues and so on. That’s what Upside+ gives them.

Describe the overall population of independent living residents at Upside+. What is their average age? What are their favorite things to do?

Adults who choose the Upside+ lifestyle are generally 55+ and interested in an environment where they can live independently on their terms while getting in-home care, meals, light housekeeping, laundry service and access to amenities. They do not want to move into a traditional senior living campus that feels restrictive, and the stigma is unappealing to them. Many of our Upside+ members have family members who do not live in town, or their adult children are busy raising families and cannot provide the daily care needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle, mind and body. They appreciate that Upside+ is discreet – and they can choose a luxury apartment with all the amenities in a community with residents of all ages.

Upside+ members have a range of interests, and their virtual Home Managers who act as a concierge/care coordinator identify like-minded members and can arrange events, socials and outings so they can build friendships. But all of that is optional. Upside+ members don’t want to receive a traditional senior living events calendar of typical activities. Some of the activities Upside+ members enjoy include dining, the arts, travel, movies and hobbies of all kinds. They share a lot in common with other residents in their apartment communities.

Because Upside+ offers in-home care and meals, this frees up members to enjoy their older years. They can age gracefully in place and even explore new interests now that there is no burden of housekeeping, lawn care, cooking, errands and even walking the dog.

Upside+ apartments are located in attractive communities across the country that offer close access to dining, entertainment, shopping, recreation, quality healthcare and conveniences like grocery stores. Many of our locations are centered around cultural activities, and all of them are near places of worship, libraries, museums and academic institutions. Our members are active and want to be a part of the greater community rather than associating only with a senior living campus, but they need the care support from a certified nursing assistant (CNA).

What are some recent off-site events that the community activity director at Upside+ has organized?

Upside+ Home Managers regularly organize meet-up events at our apartments and in the community for members who are interested. (No pressure!) We organize group reservations to favorite local restaurants so Upside+ members can enjoy a meal and like-minded companionship. We get to know the interests of our members’ interests and curate activities, outings and events that cater to the way they want to spend time.

What transportation services does Upside+ offer to independent living residents?

Transportation packages allow you to ride for free with your Upside+ membership – and if you do not want to go out, you can get free grocery delivery, escorts to meals and activities, and personal shopping. Upside+ offers another layer of service and support on top of the general Upside membership.

What makes the chef or dining program at Upside+ exceptional? What kind of menu can independent living residents expect?

Upside+ members can order gourmet meals to be delivered, or request grocery delivery service if they prefer to prepare their own dishes. Unlike a traditional dining hall, Upside+ membership offers options like meal preparation so you can have fresh, hot breakfast, lunch or dinner at home. There is no set menu, which is what our members love. And there is no meal plan schedule with monthly requirements. You choose. Plus, we can arrange for restaurant meal delivery so you can sit down to their favorites without leaving home.

What common areas are available for independent living residents?

Traditional senior living often boxes residents into smaller apartments with the trade-off of common spaces like game rooms, cafeterias, and exercise facilities. At Upside+, we’re different. Your common area depends on the luxury apartment building you choose. Most of our homes offer courtyards with greenspace, walking paths, fitness facilities, clubhouses with common rooms and cafes, and swimming pools. All of them provide accessible parking, in-home laundry, modern appliances and finishes, and on-site security.

What safety features or security measures does Upside+ offer to independent living residents?

All Upside+ homes have updated security technologies, are pre-screened to be safe and have controlled access. The communities have on-site security either at night or full-time. Plus, our members have access to a Home Manager who can provide check-ins for peace of mind. Plus, with a certified nursing assistant (CNA) available eight hours a day, seven days a week, there’s the added support and peace of mind of a certified healthcare professional on site.

If Upside+ accepts dogs or cats, what indoor/outdoor areas can they enjoy?

If you have a cat or dog, there are Upside+ homes that offer play spaces, walking paths, and even pet wash stations. If it’s pouring down rain and you don’t want to walk your dog, reach out to your Home Manager. We’ll take care of it. Upside+ offers free pet care with membership.

Does Upside+ work with an agency or registry to provide nursing and medical assistance as needed?

Upside+ members get twice-daily visits from a certified nursing assistant (CNA) who is available eight hours daily for check-ins and a la carte visits, too., plus the following services:
